About therapy

My way of working

My aim is to create a confidential, safe and non-judgmental environment to explore the issues clients bring. My emphasis is to work collaboratively with the client to explore, understand and to resolve their different problems. I provide short-term or long-term therapy to help people with their emotional wellbeing and relationship issues.

I mainly work with individuals with Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C PSTSD), and PTSD (single event traumas). I also offer psychologoligcal therapy for a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression and relationship issues.

My psychological approach is integrative. This involves drawing on different therapeutic approaches to provide the flexibility to better understand the client’s experience. Using different perspectives supports the tailoring of the therapeutic work to the unique needs of each client.

I tailor the therapy sessions to take account of the client’s presenting issues and experienced difficulties. I use a fluid and flexible approach which is informed by, and draws upon a range of therapeutic models including Eye-Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Person-Centred Therapy, and Psychosexual Therapy. The therapeutic approaches I draw upon may be used separately or in combination.

My psychological approach

Most people experience difficulties at some stage of their life, such as overwhelming distress, feeling of ‘stuckness’ or lack of meaningfulness. Thoughts and feelings can be difficult to identify alone and come to terms with alone. Talking to a therapist in a confidential and supportive environment is a space to understand and address your difficulties effectively. My view is that the role of the therapist is to explore with the client their core beliefs, in order to identify their feelings of ‘stuckness’ and relationship patterns. The value of this work is to help shift unhelpful patterns we may become stuck in and to create possibilities to foster and develop emotional awareness and psychological flexibility. This helps us to develop the skills needed to manage current and future experiences, thoughts and feelings, which may have otherwise been overwhelming.
